How do I become a Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR)?
Question:
How do I become a Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR)?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
To become a Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR), you need a high school diploma or GED. Since a CPAR handles medical billing and patient payments, you need education in accounting, finance, mathematics, business administration, and related topics. You also need excellent communication skills and should have the ability to work well with others, since an important part of a CPAR's job is to help patients resolve issues with their bills and payments. You do not have to be licensed or certified, but if you obtain certification, it can make it easier for you to obtain a job. The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management offers a Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) certification that can be beneficial to CPARs. To be eligible to sit for the CRCS exam, you need at least one year of experience working in patient billing. The exam is offered online, has three sections of multiple-choice questions, and must be completed in two hours. The topics on the exam include patient access, patient billing, and patient credit and collections. If you fail the exam, you can retake it provided you do so within twelve months from the date that you fail the exam.
