No, Texas Tech University does not offer a criminal justice major. However, the sociology majors of the university have a criminology concentration option in their program. Sociology majors specializing in criminology have to take five three-hour courses (15 hours) of criminology core courses and elective courses combined. There are two core courses required: OC 3327 (Sociology of Law and Policing) and SOC 4325 (Criminology). These core courses provide general background and foundations in understanding criminology. Elective courses, on the other hand, supplements the lessons from core courses by focusing on a specific field of criminology. Three elective courses are required for sociology majors with a criminology concentration. The following are the choices of elective courses in criminology that can be taken at Texas Tech University:
