Answer:
The National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses (www.nflpn.org) and the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation (www.incc1.org) offer IV Therapy and Gerontology certification. The Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation (www.incc1.org) also offers a Certified Registered Nurse Infusion credential. Since these credentials are considered optional, they do not expire, however it is recommended that you take refresher courses to continue professional development such as:
- IV solution concentrations
- IV preparation and vein selection
- Patient complications from IV therapy
- Central access techniques and central line care in IV therapy
- IV therapies for specific disease control
- Health care legalities and regulations
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, "The median annual wage for licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses was $47,480 in May 2019 and employment is expected to grow 11%." There are numerous opportunities to continue your training and the more experience you have, the more attractive you will be to potential employers.
