Do English majors have to take calculus?
Question:
Do English majors have to take calculus?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
Generally speaking no, English majors do not have to take calculus, either at the high school level to get into a college English program or once they are in college doing an English major. That being said, however, almost all English majors in the United States will be required to take some math to satisfy core or general requirements at their university in order to graduate. For English majors, though, the required math courses will generally be lower level or introductory courses, not something as specialized as calculus. Some majors will require calculus, either as a prerequisite for entering a college program or as part of a college major's requirements. These majors include:
- Economics/Accounting/Business
- Engineering
- Natural Sciences (including chemistry and biology)
- Mathematics
- Computer Science
