One may become a medical assistant in the Navy, or any other wing, in the U.S.military service, if interested in helping others, can work under stressful/emergency conditions, and is able to follow directions accurately. They may work in hospitals or clinics, on land/aboard ships/in mobile field hospitals. They belong to the critical team which helps the service members and their families, to recover from illness or injuries. They also prepare the equipment for diagnosis and other medical procedures.
A medical office assistant can work as any of the following enlisted positions in the Navy:
- Field Medical Service Technician(medical assistance to Marine Corps and Navy's commands; administrative & technical medical assistance, to missions and their field units; casualty evacuation procedures)
- Search and Rescue Medical Technician(emergency medical care: triage; CPR(cardiopulmonary resuscitation); IV therapy; handling of patients and emergency medical equipment; aero-medical evacuation)
However, as enlisted service members, medical assistants in the Navy should gain the following basic military training, through classroom studies, lab demonstrations, practical exercises, and on-the-job training:
- Tactical and survival skills
- Physical training
- Military life and customs
- Weapons training
