New York City Area Cardiovascular Technology Programs

Molloy College

Molloy College offers educational and training opportunities in the allied health sciences field through certificate and associate's degree programs. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredits the school's cardiovascular technology program.

Associate of Applied Science in Cardiovascular Technology

The Associate of Applied Science in Cardiovascular Technology program offers students an opportunity to learn through didactic coursework, laboratory training and clinical experiences. The curriculum in the program ensures that students develop the critical thinking and competency skills necessary to work in cardiovascular technology. Students will develop diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative skills through courses in topics such as cardiovascular pharmacology, ultrasound physics, clinical cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular research techniques. In addition to a clinical experience, students will also have to complete a two-part practicum. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the national registry examination in vascular technology, invasive cardiology or echocardiography.

Long Island University - Brooklyn

Long Island University (LIU) - Brooklyn offers a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography, which includes some relevant coursework for those interested in cardiovascular technology.

B.S. in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program at LIU is one of the only programs in the nation that features a combination of adult echocardiography and general ultrasound techniques. The first two years of the program focus on developing a solid foundation, with core courses in the liberal arts and sciences with introductory courses in physics, anatomy, and physiology. Once these essential ideas are understood, students move on to more professional topics. Studies include echocardiography and non-invasive vascular techniques. The final two years of the curriculum features laboratory experience, didactic education, and plenty of clinical experience.
