Ivy Tech Community College has 30 campuses across the state of Indiana, with a total student population of more than 72,000. Nearly 10,000 attend classes at Ivy Tech's Northeast campus in Fort Wayne. The campus is composed of seven academic schools, including the School of Technology. This school offers certificate and degree programs in 12 technical areas, including design technology.
The Technical Certificate in Design Technology program requires completion of 30 credit hours and includes courses such as basic and advanced computer-aided design as well as technical graphics. Students must also complete 15 credit hours of courses covering areas including manufacturing materials and processes, vector or raster imaging, industrial sketching and residential design. Another six credit hours are required in CAD fundamentals and advanced CAD.
Students can earn either an Associate of Applied Science or Associate of Science in Design Technology. The Associate of Applied Science program is designed for students seeking to embark on or advance in a career. Students must complete 60 credit hours of coursework, including 24 credit hours in technical courses. Required courses cover topics such as descriptive geometry and fundamental, intermediate and advanced principles of 2D and 3D computer-aided design. In the Associate of Science program, students will take many of the same CAD design courses, but will also take classes in physics, trigonometry and college algebra.
