Video Editing School Information
Aspiring video editors can learn the craft through undergraduate and graduate-level training programs in film and video editing. Video editing is usually part of a broader course of study in film production or digital arts. Some online courses in media and television production also exist. NYU's programs encompass much more than just video editing, though students can enroll in non-credit courses or filmmaking certificate programs that provide a little more targeted study through the Tisch School of the Arts. Degrees include a Bachelor of Fine Arts and the Graduate Film program and both include digital filmmaking projects. Undergrads can also minor in film or enroll in a dual Bachelor of Science in Business/BFA in Film and Television.

The University of Southern California in Los Angeles offers cinematic arts, film, and television production majors for bachelor's and master's degrees. At the doctoral level, students can pursue a Ph.D. in Cinematic Arts. Students are expected to complete courses in cinematic communication, cinematic sound, digital moviemaking, cinematography, and film production. Many of the classes have both introductory and intermediate levels. By working through laboratory assignments, students create a series of videos and learn how to properly create and edit a finished video product.

Students enrolled in either college at BU can earn the interdisciplinary bachelor's, studying topics in the history, theory, and cultural aspects of film. Additionally, they may take courses in film production that include video editing training. Students also have the opportunity to get hands-on experience through local internship and honors research opportunities. Another option for students is a BS in Film and Television, which offers many editing electives. Students in this program get real-world training through internships in Los Angeles, London, or Sydney.
