Description of Baptist Colleges in Oklahoma

Although there are only a few Baptist colleges in Oklahoma, they offer students a diverse array of degree programs and available resources. Students considering these schools may also want to think about what size of school would be best for them or what kind of spiritual growth opportunities they need. Here we discuss each school in depth and what makes the schools unique.

Randall University

Randall University had about 295 undergraduate students and a student-to-faculty ratio of 15 to 1 in 2018, according to the NCES. The school offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs, in addition to certificate programs. Students may pursue their study in areas like sports management, Christian ministry, psychology, and public administration. Students can experience being part of the community by participating in a variety of campus events, such as Movie Night, Spring Concert, Floats and Devos and the Civil War Symposium. The campus holds chapel services every Tuesday and Thursday and posts recordings online to help students grow in their faith. Despite the small student population, the school does offer men's soccer, basketball and baseball as well as women's volleyball, soccer and basketball.

Oklahoma Baptist University

Oklahoma Baptist University is an NCAA Division II school with 21 different varsity sports, including swimming/diving, golf, tennis, basketball, cross country and soccer. The school has about 800 students who participate in intramural sports and offers a wide range of student organizations, including the Herd (which helps in the admission office), Campus Activities Board (which sponsors school entertainment activities), Cargo Ranch (which mentors children by taking care of horses) and the SPERO Project (which teaches English to refugees). For their spiritual lives, students can attend worship services and/or participate in global outreach opportunities and community groups, such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Connect Groups and Noonday. Oklahoma Baptist University has a student-to-faculty ratio of 15 to 1 and had a little over 1,886 undergraduate students in 2018, per the NCES. Students at this school can pursue five different master's degrees, in areas like Christian studies, nursing, and marriage and family therapy, or a bachelor's degree in one of 88 different areas, including church music, graphic design, and multilingual communication.

Bacone College

Currently known as Oklahoma's Fastest Growing College, Bacone College is an undergraduate institution that offers associate's and bachelor's degree programs. Students can pursue study in areas such as exercise science, divinity/ministry, criminal justice, nursing, business and education. The school also has a unique Division of American Indian Studies and Center for Tribal Languages that offer a few degree programs, including an associate's or bachelor's degree in tribal languages. In 2018, the school had around 271 students, according to the NCES, and does have a multicultural student population that includes Native American students. Enrolled students can further develop their spiritual lives during a weekly hour, called Bacone Hour, through the chapel service, Bible studies and a required religious course which they may choose based on their interests. Students may also participate in sports like rugby, lacrosse and Olympic weightlifting.
