Certificate Information
To apply for an A&P certificate, students must complete a program through an FAA-certified school or meet a 30-month experience requirement working on engines and airframes. Students should check with their chosen school to be sure their degree program meets FAA requirements for an A&P certificate. Supplemental coursework, experience, or testing may be required to sit for the exam.
To earn the certificate, applicants must pass several written, practical, and oral tests at designated facilities within two years. A&P certificates must be renewed every two years, and candidates must complete 1,000 hours of work experience or take a refresher course to qualify. All mechanics must also complete 16 hours of training to renew their certificates.
