Comparing Costs

One of the most difficult parts of searching for the perfect school is deciding which one fits best for you within your budget. Financial aid is a great tool to help you pay for college, but loans can mean a lengthy debt after graduation. The following schools are some of the most affordable Christian colleges in Michigan, and we will look at both tuition and room and board costs.

Great Lakes Christian College

Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission in 2003, Great Lakes Christian college is one of the more affordable Christian colleges in Michigan. Tuition for the 2021-2022 year is $17,220, with only another thousand expected for book costs and fees. Should you choose to live on campus, that will add another $8,600 for room and board. Of the 15 majors offered, six are Christian related. A few others in counseling, music, family life education, and business nonprofit can also be directly related to a faith-based program. Should you choose to take an online program, costs will average about $10,780.

Grace Bible College

A small school option, Grace Bible College only has 1,104 students enrolled. Financial aid is offered to 97% of its students, with 76% using loans to pay for tuition. The college claims to be more affordable than 59% of other private schools in the state. Should you be able to live off campus and with family, you'll significantly cut your yearly costs. Instead of $23,600 for tuition, room and board, books and other costs, living at home will only cost you roughly $17,820 for the year. Grace Bible offers undergraduate programs on campus, and online graduate programs, giving you plenty of options. There are also travel abroad opportunities for semesters or just a brief trip to sight-see, minister, help communities and learn in other countries.

Madonna University

Madonna University boasts an inexpensive Christian college option: online courses. Of course, this helps to keep room and board costs down, but for those who want to live on the Livonia campus, room and board (along with other fees and costs) will run you about $11,890. Tuition is fairly low, at roughly $24,900 a year, and costs can be cut with online courses. Each credit costs only $405, and some undergraduate and graduate programs can be completed wholly online.

Calvin Theological Seminary

This seminary focuses its academics on graduate degrees, such as Master of Theology, Master of Philosophy, Master of Divinity, Master of Arts (Bible and Theology) and Doctor of Philosophy. Choosing to go to a seminary school means that you have chosen to focus on a theological degree that will help you further your career in ministry. Each of these programs will generally take 2-4 years to complete. Housing is available both on and off campus, and the cost is based on monthly rental and the size of the apartment you are seeking.

Kuyper College

A tiny college of 208 students, Kuyper College focuses on Biblical teachings in over 20 majors. They also offer a double major opportunity of a major of your choice combined with Bible and theology. To help with costs, 100% of students currently enrolled receive financial aid. Kuyper has four housing options for those who wish to live on campus. Since all students are undergrads, Kuyper bases the housing options by year. Upper-level students have a unique opportunity to live in the Life-Together Living Learning Community, which is a house where many students live together to have group meals, Bible study, and other communal activities to strengthen bonds and Christian leadership. Cost for on-campus room and board is roughly $8,080.
