There are only two schools in the Tampa area that offer degree programs in accounting; and one of these is a private not-for-profit school. Based on school type, number of accounting degrees awarded and school rankings, the following school is considered a top school in the area for accounting degrees:
- Winner: The University of South Florida is the only public school in Tampa with degrees in this field. The school offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting.

The University of South Florida (USF) enrolls just over 44,000 students and had a student-to-faculty ratio of 23 to 1 in 2019. This schools offers close 200 degree programs. Its accounting programs are housed within the school's Muma College of Business.
Students at the undergraduate level can choose between either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the School of Accountancy. Courses include cost accounting and control, accounting information systems and concepts of federal income taxation. FSU also offers to students a Master of Accountancy program, requiring a total of 30 semester hours. The M.Acc. has three track: general, tax or audit/systems. The program of study features courses such as internal and operational auditing, advanced corporate taxation and selected topics in accounting.
